“Icons of brand design”: exclusive guided tour with Professor Dr. Peter Zec
From posters to apps and up to TV-commercials – during the guided tour “Icons of brand design” (in german language) on 5 December 2017 at 5:30 pm in the Museum for Communication Berlin, Red Dot CEO Professor Dr. Peter Zec guides the participants through the special exhibition “Best Communication Design – Red Dot Winners Selection 2017” and shows them his personal highlights from this year. On the basis of the exhibited projects, honoured in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design, the design expert will explain the latest developments in the fields of advertising, marketing and design.
Among others, the works of the “Red Dot: Agency of the Year” are presented. In 2017, the honorary title was handed over to the full-service agency thjnk. They caused attention for example with their commercial “Forest of Fries” that was created together with Leo Burnett Germany for McDonald’s Germany. Moreover, the awarded campaign for “ALI COLA” is part of the portfolio as well as their works for well-known brands like Audi, granini, IKEA and REWE that all find there place in the special exhibition.
Heeeeey Macarena!
Another highlight, which provided entertainment during the Red Dot Gala on 27 October, is the billboard campaign “3M Forever Sticking Billboards” by Cheil Germany for 3M from Hong Kong. The campaign connects the strong bonding of the duct tape with the long durability of earworms by sticking catchy and well-known lyric lines with the tape on billboards, for example the 90s hit “Macarena”.
Besides classic TV- and billboard campaigns, digital projects like apps and user interface designs find their place in the exhibition as well as exciting projects in the fields of sound design and retail design. Even a music video can be watched in the exhibition and the very special work by the Red Dot: Junior Prize winner invites to linger.
18 metres concentrated creativity
“Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin is in the main focus of this work. Sarah Müller convinced the jury with her analytic approach and was caught off guard during the Red Dot Gala with the Red Dot: Junior Prize endowed with 10,000 Euros prizemoney. In her book, she translates the classical piece of music into graphics – and also uses an exceptional type of carrier medium: Her book can be fold out to a length of 18 metres. Thus, the listener of the music piece can see single parts of the composition as a whole without turning the pages.
The exhibition “Best Communication Design – Red Dot Winners Selection 2017” can be seen in the Museum for Communication Berlin until 14 January 2018.
