Fast, sportive and modern: Award-winning vehicles in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015
In its anniversary year, the Red Dot Award: Product Design recorded the highest number of submissions in its history. 4,928 products were registered into 31 categories: from consumer electronics and jewelery to toys, industry technology and vehicles. The assessment of the vehicles of the largest automobile manufactures is a very special highlight, because they are delivered specifically for the Red Dot jury.
After the strict but fair selection process, four cars and a motorcycle were bestowed with the highest single award "Red Dot: Best of the Best". These include the exclusive race car Ferrari FXX K, the sports cars Mercedes-AMG GT and Mazda MX-5 and the motorbike MT-07 by Yamaha. With the Volvo XC90 also an SUV was awarded.
The Ferrari FXX K is based on the first hybrid model derived from Maranello and has a total power output of 1050 hp. This model is the latest product of Ferrari’s research and development program and will ensure its drivers an entirely new driving experience. A new roadster invites the user to drive with open top: the Mazda MX-5. The fourth generation of the model offers its users a sporty design that is reflected in the interior. The Mercedes-AMG GT has the appearance of a sculpture due to arched surfaces, a dome-shaped arched roof line and frameless doors. The MT-07 by Yamaha contributes to a motorcycle lifestyle. This approach becomes apparent in a lightweight, slim and compact chassis. Moreover, Volvo was awarded for its seven seat premium SUV, the first model of a new design direction of the Swedish manufacturer. The Volvo XC90 is characterised by a combination of formal minimalism and excellent design details.
On 29 June 2015, the day of the Red Dot Gala, the awardees of the Red Dot: Best of the Best accept their Red Dot Trophy in the architecturally spectacular Aalto-Theater. Afterwards, designers, entrepreneurs and guests will celebrate at the Designers’ Night in the Red Dot Design Museum. On the same day, the award-winning vehicles will be a special eye-catcher, because they will be exhibited in front of to the Red Dot Design Museum.
