Experienced Red Dot jurors Alvarez Fuentes, Bocchietto and Toft enrich the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015
This year, 38 renowned specialists from all over the world guarantee with their expertise the high quality level of the Red Dot Award: Product Design as well as the expressiveness of the Red Dot seal. Every jury member pledges to a “Code of Honour” and is excluded from taking part in the competition. In addition, to avoid conflicts of interest, the jurors may not be employees of the manufacturing industry. The internationally esteemed design professionals, whose background allows them to consciously assess the special intercultural aspects of design, comprises new members and Red Dot experienced jurors, such as Manuel Alvarez Fuentes from Mexico, Dr. Luisa Bocchietto from Italy and Nils Toft from Denmark.
Manuel Alvarez Fuentes has over 40 years of experience as a practising designer in the fields of product design, furniture and interior design, pack-design, signage and visual communications. From 1992 to 2012, Alvarez Fuentes was Director of Diseño Corporativo (diCorp), a product design consultancy in Querétaro, Mexico. Currently, he is head of innovation at Alfher Porcewol in Mexico City. He has acted as consultant and advisor for numerous companies and institutions and also as a board member of various designers’ associations, including, for example, as a member of the Icsid Board of Directors from 1999 to 2001, as Vice President of the National Chamber of Industry of Mexico, Querétaro, from 2007 to 2011, and as Director of the Innovation and Design Award, Querétaro, in 2007. Furthermore, Alvarez Fuentes has been senior tutor in Industrial Design at Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Querétaro since 2009. In 2012 and 2013, he was president of the jury of Premio Quorum, the most prestigious design competition in Mexico.
Luisa Bocchietto, architect and designer worked as a free lance undertaking projects for local development, building renovation and Urban Design. She works as a visiting professor with universities and design schools, and participates in design conferences and juries in Italy and abroad. She has written numerous articles and produced exhibitions on architecture and design. Together with her professional activities, over the years she has had various roles in numerous ventures aimed at providing support for the spread of design quality. Luisa Bocchietto is a member of the Italian Design Council at the Ministry for Cultural Heritage, of Polidesign Consortium of the Milan Polytechnic, of CIDIC Italo-Chinese Council for Design and Innovation, of CNAC National Anti-Counterfeiting Council at the Ministry of Economic Development. From 2008 until 2014 she has been National President of the ADI – Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (Association for Industrial Design). She is actually member of the Icsid Board, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design. Since January 2015 she is Editorial Director of PLATFORM, a new magazine about Architecture and Design.
Nils Toft, born in Copenhagen in 1957, graduated as an architect and designer from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1985. He also holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Design and Business Development. Starting his career as an industrial designer, Nils Toft joined the former Christian Bjørn Design in 1987, an internationally active design studio in Copenhagen with branches in Beijing and Ho Chi Minh City. Within a few years, he became a partner of CBD and, as managing director, ran the business. Today, Nils Toft is the founder and managing director of Designidea. With offices in Copenhagen and Beijing, Designidea works in the following key fields: communication, consumer electronics, computing, agriculture, medicine, and graphic arts, as well as projects in design strategy, graphic and exhibition design.
