Award-winning communication design from North Rhine-Westphalia in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen
Until 29 May 2016, visitors of the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, Germany can see the special exhibition “World's Best Communication Design and Highlights from NRW”, which combines the best performances of the regional and international communication design scene in one place. 60 of about 130 exhibits are from design forges in the German federal province North Rhine-Westphalia - they prove that the regional creative industry can convince on an international level with its well-designed communication works.
Communication design in its varied form
Creative, expressive and effective is each of the exhibited projects, which were awarded in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design in 2015. In their diversity, they also reflect the varied forms of communication design: In addition to print products such as posters, illustrations, packaging or annual reports there can be found game designs, interfaces and apps in the current exhibition. On screen and in the cinema lounge examples from the categories “Sound Design” and “Film & Animation” are additionally presented.
Excellent winners from North Rhine-Westphalia
The fact that the designs from North Rhine-Westphalia stand out in this variety, is demonstrated with for example “Recoil” by Natalie Stosiek from Mettmann. The series of portraits of the English composer and musician Alan Wilder was awarded the Red Dot in 2015. One of the motives was even chosen to be the key visual of the exhibition. However, the North Rhine-Westfalian winners are not only coming from the surrounding areas of the creative strongholds Cologne and Düsseldorf. The design agency “beierarbeit” from Bielefeld designed iPad sleeves for the IT service provider “Finanz Informatik” as a packaging for congress folders. With sustainable materials and selected illustrations the design reflects the congress slogan “Stability in times of change”.
Interactive and digital communication designs
While you can scroll through the physical annual reports and books in the exhibition, other works and projects can be experienced on screen. This includes the app “Fiete Choice” by Ahoiii Entertainment from Cologne, which was developed for children in pre-school and primary school age. Hand-drawn animations of “Fiete the sailor” guide children through various levels of logic and thinking tasks and work on the visual perception as well as on the processing and storage of information. For its charming and intuitive design, the jury awarded the app with the Red Dot: Best of the Best.
