The Value of Ferns
Taiwan is home to over 600 varieties of ferns. This work examines ten particularly rare, endangered species. It thereby links the value which these plants have for the ecological system with a symbolic value: as a graphic illustration, they decorate paper slips looking like bank notes. Analogous to bank notes, the idea of promoting the protection of rare ferns is supposed to be circulated and spread. They are kept in elaborately designed notebooks, whereby the title page displays the coloured illustration of a fern. The books contain the bank notes and information is given about the plants they show.
