The Huge Wall – IFSC Climbing World Championships 2019
Sport climbing was approved for the 2020 Olympics, raising the profile of this minor sport in Japan. An eye-catching brand design was developed to emphasise the significance of the IFSC Climbing World Championships 2019, which was held in Hachioji, Tokyo. Representing the name of the city, the letter “H” was integrated into an abstract image of a climbing wall to form the brand’s symbol. On key visual aids such as posters, this symbol was printed so that it overlaps the event information. Overprinting the typography with gold and silver ink resulted in a fascinating visual effect that causes the text to fade and the wall to appear more clearly when viewed under a spotlight.
