REI – A symphony of wood and horn
What was obvious, for example, with the striking cat-eye glasses of some Hollywood stars in the 1950s, is still valid today: glasses define personal style. The design objective of REI is to underline the wearer’s per-sonal charisma. These frames are handcrafted with high precision from the natural materials wood and horn, combining unique shapes with the use of modern technologies. Since the glasses are very light, the wearer hardly feels them. The main focus of their sophisticated functionality is the innovative “Snap Joint” hinge. This screwless designed joint made of water buffalo horn also acts as a characteristic, highly recognisable feature of the entire eyewear collection. It is maintenance-free and optician-friendly, since it allows an easy upgrade with the fully adaptable temples made of horn or a combination of wood and horn. This innovative joint thus solves one of the main problems of wooden frames. Especially when working with natural materials, high-grade components are the key to durability and longevity of a product. All elements of REI are therefore carefully selected and precisely assembled by hand. Thus, each piece is also an expression of individual craftsmanship representing a particular quality that proves itself in everyday use.
Statement by the Jury
The design of these glasses applies the natural materials of wood and horn in a markedly skilful manner. It offers wearers a maximum of ergonomics and individual expression. The extremely precise handcrafted manufacturing of REI is consistent with a sophisticated, highly developed functionality. The captivatingly innovative solution of the “Snap Joint” hinge leads to more flexibility and a more uncomplicated use.
