Experiencing the moment

“Every design project is a new story, and to be able to tell compelling stories in this overflowing world you have to offer a new angle, to unleash and spark curiosity,” is how the designers of Ray-Ban Stories describe the approach they took in developing this innovative smart eyewear. The eyewear promotes a different experience when used in connection with contemporary media, as it allows users to capture moments on video at a concert, for example, and still enjoy the event with full attention. The Ray-Ban Stories eyewear is controlled by vocal commands or a control button, allowing for making phone calls, capturing or listening. The frame integrates the advanced technology while staying true to the iconic style of the three classic Ray-Ban models Wayfarer, Round and Meteor. The challenge was to conceal the extensive hardware as inconspicuously as possible in the frames. Dual HD cameras, open-ear speakers, microphones and an invisible touchpad have been seamlessly integrated. The frames are only 10 per cent heavier than their standard counterparts. They can be worn as sunglasses or fitted with clear lenses, self-tinting lenses or prescription lenses. The discreetly designed input area offers simple and comfortable operation and even allows content to be uploaded or shared via the Facebook View app. The Ray-Ban Stories eyewear charges as soon as it is placed in the case.

Statement by the Jury

The design of Ray-Ban Stories succeeds as a perfect integration of audio and camera technology. Only five grams heavier than the well-known classic Ray-Ban models, this eyewear offers a comfortable way of operation that allows it to be easily adapted to the various situations. This opens up a new dimension of experience for users. For example, they can capture moments on video at a concert and at the same time are able to enjoy the actual event without distractions.
