Popsitable

Picking out a popsicle from the grocery store’s freezer on a hot summer childhood day in Taiwan, always looking forward to finishing the popsicle in hope that the the words ‘get one more free’ would appear on the stick…what a mood. Popsitable is a desk series that takes inspiration from traditional popsicle sticks. Combining the elegant golden ratio and the rounded R-angle of popsicle sticks with carbonised bamboo wood, every detail of the desk is the result of a constant symbiosis between imagination and reality. Carbonised bamboo wood is a high-tech material that revolutionises traditional bamboo material. Raw bamboo is shredded and then carbonised at high temperature and pressure for anti-rot and anti-pest processing. This intermediate material is then soaked in green adhesive and hot pressed to finally create carbonised bamboo wood. As such, the texture of crushed bamboo can still be seen on the surface of each desk. Through SGS related tests, the density of the wood is determined to be above 1.00, with formaldehyde level well within 0.05%, granting this desk FSC certification for sustainable production. By replacing wood with bamboo, Popsitable moves away from deforestation that contributes to global greenhouse gas emissions. Bamboo is also the fastest growing plant in the world and 100% biodegradable, making it a highly sustainable material. It grows up to 100cm a day, takes only 5 years to be harvested and does not require replanting after harvesting.
