Form and performance

The Mac Pro is the successor to the Power Mac line with its well-known, impressive tower housing. When first launched, that product line was located in the high-end area and embodied a high degree of contemporary performance. The current Mac Pro has been designed to deliver extreme performance and is built around a stainless steel space frame with removable aluminium housing. This construction allows 360-degree access to all components, easy expansion and countless configuration options. The Mac Pro was developed for users who need a very high CPU performance for demanding projects such as rendering in video productions, playing hundreds of virtual instruments or simulating an iOS app on multiple devices at once. At the heart of the performance is an Intel Xeon processor with up to 28 cores. In addition, large L2 and shared L3 caches and 64 PCI Express lanes provide very high bandwidth in and out of the processor. To take full advantage of the processor’s performance, the Mac Pro is equipped with a massive heat sink that keeps the temperature of the system low and thus enables it to run fully unconstrained and very quietly. With four double-wide slots, three single-wide slots, and one half-length slot preconfigured with the Apple I / O card, this Mac Pro has twice as many slots as the previous model, allowing for easy customisation and expansion as required.

Statement by the Jury

The design of the Mac Pro perfectly visualises the impressive performance it delivers. The iconic combination of the special space frame and removable aluminium housing gives users highly convenient 360-degree access to the inside for expansion and individual configurations. The eight expansion slots of the Mac Pro offer a variety of new possibilities. As an evolution of the Apple high-end computer, the latest Mac Pro projects a new, remarkable aesthetics.
