Kinmen Wind Lion God Guide Book

Back Download

Lions are held in high esteem by the Chinese because they symbolise power. The residents of Taiwan’s Kinmen Island have turned to the lion for centuries in attempt to protect themselves whenever the annual monsoon winds picked up. They erected lion statues as village guardians, considered to command the winds and repel misfortune. A series of illustrations presents the stories behind these statues, conveying their meaning through enjoyable images. Depicted in a humanised style, the series also reaches out to a younger audience.
