Green Factory NAVER Library & Café
The first two floors of the NAVER headquarters have been transformed into a library, where bookshelves and the ambience were designed differently to best suit each book category. The library has three different zones – a design zone, a magazine zone, and an encyclopaedia zone – and each has been created to offer maximised comfort and valuable experience to visitors. In the design zone, visitors can find quality design books while strolling down the forest of bookshelves. The “forest” concept has been shown literally with hydroponic plants that have been planted on top of each bookshelf, which provides proper humidity and pleasant air quality. In the magazine zone, visitors can skim through the latest magazines as if they were walking by shop windows on the streets. The bookshelves here are lower than conventional ones, which magazine readers can use as standing desks holding their note pads, pencils or cups. Using the concept of an “attic”, the encyclopaedia zone provides the pleasure of being deeply immersed in comprehensive knowledge in a cosy surrounding for a long time.
Statement by the Jury
The complex concept for the company’s lobby area and the public library surprises with a simple combination of functionality and well-being. Bringing together highly differentiated and partly even green zones, it represents an understanding and use of space that is entirely tailored to user needs.
