Software Interfaces and Usability
Gira Interface Design
The Gira Interface is used to control the electrical installations in a building. Featuring an easy-to-understand menu navigation, it enables quick access to a wide variety of home technology functions, such as lighting, blinds and heating, which can be reached via just a few menu levels. The interface is optimised for various image sizes, which makes operating it highly convenient on both the Gira G1 central operating unit and an iPhone. When developing the new Gira Interface strategy, also particular attention was paid to connecting up-to-date, generally comprehensible operating processes from the world of smartphones with the special requirements for a building operating device, in order to thus guarantee simple and intuitive user guidance. In combination with a functional style in accordance with the Gira identity and a new set of symbols, the central corporate values, such as modernity, simplicity, transparency and value, are conveyed in a remarkable way.
Statement by the Jury
This contemporary interface design for the home technology sector merges a sophisticated graphic interface with simple and easy-to-understand user guidance. The ease and seamlessness with which it integrates the behaviour of smartphone users is impressive. The interface is optimised for various image sizes and therefore convenient to operate, also on an iPhone.
