Gaga Changning Villa

Located in a former Christian girls’ school in Shanghai, China, the design of this restaurant and café strives to maintain the connection between the building’s historical connotations and its present-day function, turning it into a place for a fashionable set of dynamic consumers to “congregate” and exchange ideas. Interspersed throughout the two-storey building, art installations play a prominent role, with eminently social-media-friendly contemporary neon works hanging comfortably alongside objects that are more classical in tone. Meanwhile, furnishings in muted hues lend an effortless elegance, while feature walls of bold petrol green draw attention to the original and generous windows.
