Extinction

Extinction is a collection of four candles shaped as animals with different conservation status: polar bear (vulnerable), African wild dog (endangered), Japanese sea lion (extinct) and human (secure). Represented lying down with their butts up, the burning of the candle represents another loss. Each animal is chosen because of how we have contributed to its vulnerability. The last candle, human, is there to prompt us to think about our relationship with animals. The product’s packaging is inspired by traditional zen books, and it has polar bear footprints on the cover. Footprints that represent the length of the species' existence are painted on the interior of the box and on the candleholders.
