Diavel V4
Love at First Sight
Ducati introduced the first Diavel in 2010, creating its own niche segment within its model ranges. “The Diavel is a very special motorbike – expensive and not so easy for many people to understand because it is not a typical ‘functional’ motorbike”, says Stefano Tarabusi, Design Manager at Ducati. “The Diavel is more of a niche product – a motorbike that you buy because you’ve fallen head over heels in love with it.” And the number of Diavel enthusiasts is growing from year to year. A key feature of the Diavel’s success is its striking appearance, which is characterised by a play on contrasts. The central design element of the Diavel V4 is the 240 mm wide rear tyre on a long swingarm that connects the wheel and the rest of the motorbike. The light alloy rims are another eye-catching feature. Despite the wide tyres, the rear looks agile and streamlined, while all the mass seems to be concentrated on the front and the area of the sculpturally shaped fuel tank with its two large air intakes on either side. The retractable passenger peg supports and an extendable pillion grab handle disappear completely when not in use so as not to disturb the overall appearance. The rear light cluster consists of a matrix of more than one hundred dot-shaped LEDs positioned under the tail, creating an unmistakable light signature. “The Ducati Diavel V4 impresses at first glance with its imposing appearance, which projects power and performance,” said the jury. “But once you sit on it, it appears slim and conveys a feeling of lightness and controllability.” The outstanding ergonomics with a low seat and low centre of gravity ensure that the rider becomes one with the machine. In addition, every detail is of remarkably high quality and perfectly integrated. As an example, the jurors cited the exhaust, which ends in a silencer with four outlets. This immediately indicates the high motorisation of the V4 Granturismo, but also has the effect that one can almost hear the sound of the engine just by looking at it. In short: a motorbike for love at first sight, but also one that has everything it takes to become the love of one’s life.
