Baba Yaga and the Kind Little Girl

This illustration interprets a folk tale about a little girl and Baba Yaga, the Slavic witch of the woods. The concept of the layout combines collage with painting in order to create an environment that is suitable for children, looking both graphic and realistic. While the soft pink tone and daisy flowers symbolise the kindness of the girl, the skulls represent Baba Yaga’s dangerous nature. Meanwhile, two prominently placed elements allude to the end of the story: the cat will offer a comb and a towel to help the girl escape from the place.
