Electrification of Furniture
AMPEROS
More Than Just a Drawer
“We believe that the furniture of the future will contain many intelligent applications” – this is the motto of furniture manufacturer Julius Blum. This is why, in addition to developing the lift, hinge, runner and pocket systems for furniture that the Austrian company is famous for, Blum is increasingly focusing on the electrification of furniture and furniture components. AMPEROS represents an innovative solution for this very purpose, supplying power to drawers or pull-out shelves safely and without any free-hanging cables. It is easy to set up and operate, and does not require any electrical expertise for installation, thus offering a straightforward solution for integrating light sources, charging functions and the use of electrical devices in and on moving furniture parts. Blum offers two options for this purpose: AMPEROS AC is a 230-volt standalone solution that can be combined with various Blum pull-out systems and can even be retrofitted without taking up additional space. As it does not require a back panel, it is especially suitable for pull-out shelves, so that fully automated coffee machines, printers and other devices can be positioned more freely and supplied with power. By contrast, AMPEROS DC is a clever piece of 24-volt infrastructure for supplying entire base cabinets with power. This solution not only brings light to drawers, but also allows devices to be charged via USB-C. Thanks to a power rail on the rear of the unit, drawers can be fitted and removed with ease without having to detach any cables. A variety of battery-powered devices can therefore be stored neatly and charged at the same time. The USB ports and lights can be activated and controlled via an app. The jury was impressed, stating that, “AMPEROS combines coherent design with great functionality.” It continued: “From the ease of installation and the clever cable-guidance, through to the way it offers greater order and clarity – this is a clean and well-considered solution that enhances residential living.” The jury was unanimously of the opinion that AMPEROS also spells the end of the infamous, intractably tangled cables, and opens up many additional possibilities as a future-proof, externally controllable interface.
