With the all-in-one design of the first iMac in 1998, Apple redefined the aesthetics of computer technology. With M1 technology, Apple has now also redefined the all-in-one design of the iMac. This was made possible because everything that makes up the 24" iMac – its powerful technology and new design language – is based on a single chip. It is the first entire system on a chip for the Mac. This technical innovation allows the 24" iMac to be exceptionally thin and compact. The system works smoothly and quickly. It wakes up from sleep almost instantly. And that is to be taken literally. The computer is ready to for use without delay simply because it does not need to be woken up first. Apps launch in a flash. With a brilliant 4.5K Retina display and powerful sound from the speakers, the 24" iMac is suitable for almost anything – working or gaming, surfing the web or streaming video, editing pictures or listening to music. Apple has reassembled all the elements of the all-in-one computer and harmonised them as if cast from a single mould – from the carrying handle to the packaging and every single cable. Everything is colour-coordinated, from the mouse to the keyboard to the filigree case, which is extremely thin at only 11.5 mm and redefines the limits of what is possible. The reduced, minimalist redesign projects Apple in a variety of vibrant colours – green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver – to match the personal styles of the users and their workspaces.
Statement by the Jury
With the 24" iMac, Apple has succeeded in reinventing the all-in-one computer. All elements are coordinated in terms of design and colour and, thanks to the latest technology, offer a completely new, unimagined user experience. The iMac with all its accessories has a technical and design quality that sets new standards.
