Culmination of the first "China Good Design" competition in Xiamen
From the end of October until November 2015, the international design scene came together in the metropolis of Xiamen, to honour the best designers of the first "China Good Design" award, and to celebrate them at the "Designers' Night".
Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Design Award, opened the awards ceremony. On stage, the awardees have received their deserved certificates. In 2015, the highest single distinction "China Good Design Gold" was awarded 16 times, 75 products were bestowed with the quality seal "China Good Design" and 15 products were awarded with a honourable mention. The electronic manufacturer Lexon received the most awards. After the awards ceremony, Chinese and international designers as well as numerous guests celebrated at the "Designers' Night".
With China Good Design, Prof. Dr. Peter Zec initiated an international design award for the Chinese market which is based on the strict statutes of Red Dot. Its goal is to discover good designs in China from an international perspective, aiming to improve the future design atmosphere in China and expressing Chinese design culture as well as promoting Chinese design and culture worldwide. On 8 November 2015, the expert also talked about that topic as a guest of the TV-show "Dialogue", the largest business talk show in China.
All submissions were assessed by an independent expert jury. The internationally Red Dot jury entered the judging with 9 design professionals from 8 countries. Among them are long-time Red Dot jurors as well as prominent personalities of the Chinese design scene. The renowned jurors include Gordon Bruce (USA), Martin Darbyshire (United Kingdom) Aleksandar Tatic (Germany/Italy), Prof. Jure Miklavc (Slovenia), Prof. Dr. Ken Nah (Korea), Prof. Renke He (China), Mårten Claesson (Sweden), Prof. Cheng-Neng Kuan (Taiwan) and Prof. Song Kee Hong (China). In the context of "Meet the Jury", the participating designers had the chance to get in touch with the jury members in person.
With "China Good Design" and "Xiamen International Design Business Week - Red Dot in China", which attracted more than 300,000 visitors in 2015, the five-million-strong metropolis has become one of the largest sites for industrial and creative design in China.
