Communication design on the highest level: excellent Online projects

The participation period of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017 ends on 9 June. Agencies, designers and companies from all over the world are currently called upon to submit their well-designed and creative works and projects from the field of communication design. A total of 18 categories are available for participation, one of them is “Online”.

Blogs, digital campaigns, e-commerce, microsites, newsletters, online shops, social media, websites: In everyday life, online services are growing in worth and presence. The more important is a good design. Next to the usability there has to be an emotional appeal, good design quality and recognition value. In 2016, the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines campaign “iFly50” and the website “*noa – network of architecture” were awarded by the Red Dot Jury.

Visually stunning website for wanderlusty people
The Dutch airline KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has come up with something special for the 50th edition of its online magazine "iFly": On its website "iFly50", 50 of the world's most beautiful travel destinations were shown. Stunning photos and appealing music have been combined with short info texts. In addition, links for booking flights to the dream destinations were deposited. Visitors exploring the website were asked to choose their five favorite holiday destinations with the chance to win a ticket to go there.

Red Dot: Best of the Best for “iFly50”
The Red Dot Jury said: “The iFly50 website fascinates with wonderful photography that immediately captivates the website visitors, piquing their desire to travel. Furthermore, some points feature other elegantly implemented media, offering additional value in the form of extra information and reviews. Also convincing is the way these dream destinations are unobtrusively linked with the option to directly book a flight.”

Easy access and tidy look in the architectural network
noa* is an architecture and design agency, with headquarters in Bozen, Italy, that follows a collaborative and holistic approach in all of their diverse projects and designs. The concept of “emergence”, where the whole is perceived as being far greater than the sum of its parts, also characterises the newly developed website of the agency. Based on responsive web design, the way the site content is navigated changes depending on the device used by the visitor. On large displays, the website adopts split screens on the home page, main pages and project detail pages, which conveys a sense of high complexity and allows easy navigation by both horizontal and vertical scrolling. All pages are characterised by an aesthetic highlighting project images and descriptive texts, which communicate the wide variety of works at first glance and invite visitors to explore the site and individual projects in more depth. The projects as well as the network partners of noa* are categorised, allowing for quick and easy visitor orientation.

Red Dot: Best of the Best for “*noa – network of architecture”
The Red Dot Jury said: “The strength and particular charm of this highly contemporary website derives from the split-screen design, which facilitates independent navigation on both halves of the screen at the same time. Thus, visitors are virtually active in changing the design appearance of the website so that the look of the page is never the same. Other design details, ranging from the use of screen space to the typography, also exude a highly consistent appeal.”
