50 free places for new talent: Red Dot Award promotes young product designers
Calling all up-and-coming designers: The Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019 is giving away 50 free registration places for the Young Professionals Application Day. On 5 December 2018, all designers who have graduated within the past five years are cordially invited to apply for one of these places. They can enter their product in the competition, which will feature designers and brands from all over the globe. Young professionals who win an award can look forward to further support from Red Dot, with measures that include showcasing their products in international exhibitions.
A successful start to a professional career
Red Dot Award laureates garner a great deal of attention. This privilege is not reserved for established designers and companies alone. Young talents who are helping to shape our future and winning us over with new ideas and designs should be able to show the world that their products are outstanding.
This is why Red Dot will be giving away fifty free places to young professionals on 5 December 2018. Participation is limited to up-and-coming designers who have graduated within the past five years. They have a choice of 48 different categories in which to enter their products – from living room furniture and seats to materials and surfaces or robot technology and healthcare. The application process is simple: From midnight, an application portal will open up for 24 hours. To register, graduates just need to provide a brief description, product images and a scanned copy of their degree.
Jury tests each individual product
The 50 designs by these designers setting out on their professional career are tested in detail by the roughly 40-member jury together with the other entries. The experts try out every single product, focusing on criteria such as the level of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, longevity and self-explanatory nature. Only those objects that win them over through good design quality receive an award.
A stage for talented designers
If the up-and-coming designers win an award, they get support from Red Dot in order to communicate their success prominently at an international level. Use of the well-known Red Dot label for the award-winning product as well as its presentation in exhibitions around the globe and online are just some of the sought-after benefits reserved exclusively for the winners. Additionally, the laureates are presented in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, which depicts the current status of product design and is sold in 64 countries.
Already established in your career?
All those who graduated more than five years ago can register their products in the competition up until 9 January 2019 as part of the regular entry phase. Latecomers still have time until 1 February.
