The Macallan Visitor Experience

Zurück Download

The home of one of the most famous single malt whiskies lies at the foot of the Scottish Highlands where a light-flooded distillery building has been embedded into the landscape. A visitor’s route leads through the production hall (14,800 sqm), which is impressive in terms of both architecture and content. Sophistically designed information pillars, which act as key points along the tour, provide access to the history of the company, the processes within the distillery and the brand values. Each of these hands-on installations is positioned to directly link to the location it provides information on. They are made of high-quality materials and feature sophisticated kinetic models. The tour is complemented by three thematic pavilions that offer immersive experiences. All production stages and components leading to the whisky are presented in these walk-through installations. They explain the importance of wood for maturation in the oak barrel, the magic of blending, the composition of the whisky with its different colours, and last but not least the final product, the whisky itself.

Begründung der Jury

This exhibition yields an impressive staging of the famous The Macallan whisky brand. The different types of whisky are effectively presented in tune with the surrounding architecture, the materials used and the lifestyle of its consumers. Visitors can experience everything in both a traditional and technological way and learn about the whisky’s origins and different flavours. It tells a perfect story about the location.
