Monitum explores ways to prevent a common severe foot injury sustained during athletic training as a result of overused footwear. Monitum provides a netting system that captures deformation while utilising advanced materials such as polymer opal to create an innovative method that visually notifies the user of their footwear’s remaining lifespan through changes in colour or shape. Monitum provides an opportunity to reconsider the core competencies of performance footwear, especially running/training footwear, in order to reduce the occurrences of athlete injuries and improve physical performance.
