Poster Series
Fight for Food
Never before in human history has there been more food produced than today. However, at the same time, more than ten per cent of people (800 million) are suffering from starvation and one billion people have weight problems. While in some parts of the world food is abundant and even wasted, it is lacking in other parts where people must fight for it. Not only does unfair food distribution cause food crises and may lead to war, food itself has transformed into a weapon for war. The poster series deals with this very theme of a war for food, communicating the message by showing foodstuffs on plates. The strong contrast between the black background and the white plates symbolises these two worlds. The leftover sauce and food on these plates look like weapons and other war machinery. French fries with ketchup, one of the most popular meals in the world, turn into a fighter plane dropping its bombs. Thus, three figures representing the army, the navy and the air force immediately address the emotions of the beholder.
Begründung der Jury
The poster series with the title “Fight for Food” represents a highly original solution when conveying its message. To take a simple plate, which at first sight is somewhat reminiscent of a child’s plate, and illustrate it skilfully using different sauces has emerged as a visually highimpact image that poignantly draws attention to a grave issue.
