The theme of the Annecy Animation Film Festival 2019 is Japanese animation. This opening title was created to combine Japanese culture and elements of nature in Annecy. Inspired by the poster on the festival’s website, the storyline depicts a Japanese girl looking through a telescope to see the festival. The telescope also acts as a connection between these two different cultures. The zoetrope, a traditional animation device, was employed to symbolise this festival’s long history.
